The Beat

As the sun sets the drum beats
I try to realise it’s a new day dawning as I catch my breath
A new day with new treats but great feats
Still, I am yet to recover from the fails of yesterday
Stuck in the pandemonium of my mind
Embracing hope but losing my will even faster
The light at the end of this tunnel has slowly lost its glow
I search for it but see no glimmer
Get over yourself they say, you have it good they say
The drum beats even harder as I look further
Slowly my vision narrows
I am lost in the desire of all that I want to be
But who I am is hastily fading with each beat
Where do I go, what direction do I take
How can I escape this beat
It’s the reminder of my circumstance
Each angry beat asking if I stand a chance
Thud thud, thud thud, this minim goes
Will my heart eventually beat out of my chest
Will this eventually get the best of me
Help!!
Where can I go?
Who can I turn to?
Where does my help come from??????
The one who says peace, be still
Oh how I overlooked You
Because I thought you wouldn’t want to hear from me
I turned away
Taking a step in the opposite direction with each beat
But I’m at my end and now I look to you
And Your still, perfect voice is my refuge
Your love is enough for me
The song that fits perfectly with my heart’s beat
With You, my troubled heart will always know peace
You are in me and now You are my beat
Here are some verses to encourage you this season with my little spin on them:
Psalm 94:19 – When thoughts try to overwhelm me, You bring me joy.
Philippians 4:6-7- Do not worry about anything, but with a heart of gratitude, let your father know your needs and His peace shall keep you.
Mark 4:35-41- To every storm in my life, ‘Peace, be still’,
Isaiah 41:10 – Do not be afraid, God’s got you!!!
Psalm 23:4 – Through the darkest of seasons, I will not be afraid because God is with me.
Matthew 6:33-34- As I put God first in all my doings, He will provide all that I need and so I do not need to worry about tomorrow, it’s in God’s hands.
Psalm 55:22- Pour your heart out to God for He will never forsake His children.
In case you do not open any of the verses above, I want you to know this-
1 John 4:18: ‘ There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love’. What is this perfect love you ask, GOD, GOD IS LOVE (1 John 4:7-11), a sweet and perfect love manifested as the gift of abundant life we have in Jesus which has nothing to do with punishment but everything to do with GRACE.
