Hair Chronicles: Hair Butter Recipe

Updated: May 12, 2020

Hello hello helloo

Today I thought I would share a recipe and surprisingly it's not an edible one but don't worry I'll be sharing those too. This is a recipe of my hair butter which I have been using for about a year and a half now. I think it has really improved my hair texture and it's overall health. The inspiration for this recipe was the fact that I didn't like doing too much with my hair in terms of treatments and lotions and moisturisers and all the million and one wonderful products out there. I needed something that would contain everything I think my hair needs in one container so I decided to make it.

Now I am no expert and nothing was made from scratch, I just mixed some of my hair products to make one little bowl of hair goodness.

What I like about it!

- It is easy to make

- It makes my hair soft and easier to handle and,

- It smells amazing

All righty, I'll just go straight into it.

Ingredients

- 5 Tbsp Shae butter (Utako market brand, haha, just kidding, anyone is fine)

- 4 Tbsp Mega growth leave-in strengthener

- 2 Tbsp Argan oil hydrating hair mask (or any hair moisturiser you have)

- 3 Tbsp Rose water

- 2 Tbsp Coconut oil

- 15 drops Argan oil

- 10 drops Tea tree oil

- 5 drops Vitamin E oil

Tools needed

- An empty container for the butter

- A large bowl

- A whisk or plastic fork

- A plastic spoon

Method

1) Melt shae butter and coconut oil if they are solid like mine. I do this by placing both containers in a bowl with hot water and I cover it with a napkin for about 10 minutes or until they are both completely liquid.

2) Place shae butter, coconut oil, argan oil, tea tree oil and vitamin E oil in the empty container and whisk with a fork until smooth.

3) Add leave-in strengthener and hydrating hair mask and fold into the oil mixture until smooth. You may notice some separation of the contents at this stage but don't worry the final mixing stage should take care of this.

4) Add rose water and whisk with fork.

5) Cover the container and shake vigorously until contents are properly mixed (trust me this is a good arm workout).

And there you have it, your hair butter is ready to be used. You can use it to moisturise your roots when you have protective styles on or right after a wash.
